We have found that 20 minutes is ample time for a prospective client to gain a general understanding of what you might expect in your divorce or family law matter, including an estimate as to the amount of child or spousal support a court could order.

• Occupation of husband and wife and gross monthly earnings
• Children’s ages and special concerns
• Any past or current court proceedings
• General idea of assets and property owned
• General idea of debts owed
• Personalities and expectations of you and your spouse
• Your depth of knowledge of the divorce process

We also suggest that you allow the attorney to conduct the consultation much like an interview, as we can maximize the amount of time by spotting important issues and concerns, asking you appropriate questions.

Often times people needing an attorney will be extremely anxious or distressed, especially after having found out that a spouse has cheated on them. It is usually not helpful to go into a lot of personal details about a spouse’s ‘bad behavior,’ as California is a no-fault state.
